2010 Introduction: John Ryan

John Ryan, a tough and talented 2010 post prospect from Southern California, has been hearing from a variety of mid major programs in the west...

John Ryan, 6-8 JR C El Segundo (Calif.) High, has been a bit below the radar in terms of national exposure, but he's one of the better posts I've seen in the west for 2010. He's got very good hands and feet, a good skill level, toughness and he's a deceptive athlete.

I spoke with Ryan this afternoon and he gave me a list of schools that have been in contact with him.

"Pacific, UC Davis, West Point, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Washington State, San Diego, Fresno State and Santa Clara," said Ryan. "I went up to St. Mary's for an unofficial last weekend and it went really well.

I asked Ryan if he has a leader.

"Right now, I've probably been most impressed with St. Mary's," said Bryant. "And West Point. They've been showing a lot of interest."

Ryan talked a little about the issues he'll consider when picking a school.

"I want to go to a top basketball program," said Ryan. "And the academics are important. I'd like to major in kinesiology. The location isn't so important."

Ryan said he doesn't have a time frame to pick a school. He said his GPA is 3.0 overall and 3.5 for this semester."
