West's Top PG Drawing Attention

Stephen Holt, a 2010 point guard from Oregon, has offers from several schools in the west, as well as strong interest from a few Pac-10 schools...

Stephen Holt, 6-3 JR PG Portland (Ore.) Jesuit, is the top point guard in the West Coast class of 2010. Holt has excellent size for the position, above average ball skills and an excellent feel for the game.

I spoke with Holt recently and asked about the schools on his list.

"I just started hearing from UCLA," said Holt. "Washington State and Stanford are the two other Pac-10 schools that have been showing a lot of interest. I have offers from Utah, Portland, San Diego State, Boise State and I'm hearing from St. Mary's."

Holt recently went to Stanford for the Cardinal Elite Camp.

"It went really well – I enjoyed my time there," said Holt. "I liked what the coaches had to say and I like Stanford a lot."

Holt said he was invited to UCLA's Elite Camp, but won't be able to attend.

"They invited me to their camp, but I already made a commitment with my high school team," said Holt. "I would have liked to go to the camp because I'm really interested in UCLA. Besides the basketball, they have very good academics and I have family from Los Angeles – my Dad grew up down there."

Holt has already taken an unofficial visit to Washington State.

"I went there last year when Coach Bennett was there," said Holt. "But Coach Johnson was the one recruiting me and he's still there. So I'm familiar with their campus and program already."

A good student, Holt said he currently has a 3.4 GPA.
