The 6-foot-6, 180-pound wing originally committed and signed with USC, but asked for and received his Letter of Intent two weeks ago. Friday evening Johnson called Oliver Purnell and gave him a verbal commitment.
"It just seemed like the best choice for me," Johnson said about Clemson. "It's close to home and the academics are good and I like coach [Oliver] Purnell. He had a big influence on me."
Johnson took official visits to LSU and Clemson this week. The Tigers got him on campus last and were able to seal the deal.
"It was pretty good," the four-star prospect said. "They sat us down and told us what they expect of me and we sat down with academics advisors too."
Johnson said Clemson recruited him the first time around, but he didn't give them strong consideration. After the visit and looking at their roster, he decided they were the best option for him.
"They've been recruiting me since 9th or 10th grade and I didn't really look at the school because several other schools were recruiting me," he said. "But then I went down there on a visit"
"It's close to home," he continued. "I can be a missing piece to their offense and defense with Oglesby and Rivers leaving."
