USC Snags Kentucky Big Man

The new Trojan staff scored their first verbal commitment on Wednesday, and it came from a 6-foot-9 big man out of Kentucky.

Kevin O'Neill went off the map for his first commitment of his tenure at USC.

After watching Elizabethtown (Ky.) High standout Curtis Washington at the It Takes 5ive Classic, the new Trojan head coach offered him a scholarship. A day later the 6-foot-9 big man made a verbal commitment.

"I talked to my parents and everything and it was all kind of crazy," Washington said. "I went from no interest to a big school. I looked at it and talked to my family and it was everything that I wanted and needed. All I can say is praise God."

Widely unknown, Washington played with the Derek Smith All-Stars in Cincinnati. Among the other schools that showed interest were Indiana and IUPUI.

Washington is USC's only commitment in the 2010 class.
