George Backs Off Iowa State Commitment
Notre Dame Prep big man Reggie George is back on the best available list. Just this week George dialed up Iowa State to say he's no longer committed.
"He didn't sign early for a reason," Notre Dame coach Bill Barton said. "His mom wanted him to wait. The mother hasn't given her blessing. Reggie got on the phone and told [Iowa State assistant] Wayne Morgan [that he wasn't going]. Iowa State is still going to recruit him but he's going to use his other three visits."
George already visited the Cyclones and George Washington. Barton stopped giving him mail and letting him talk to other schools once he committed, but he can hear the rumblings of what wants to be involved now. Apparently Wichita State and St. Joe's have been active in his recruitment. We can see schools from the MAC and Atlantic 10 turning up their interest in George.
"Actually, some of the Big East schools about him before he committed as a secondary target," Barton said. "The later we get the more attractive he'll become because of the dearth of size out there."
George will likely eventually have to weigh playing at the highest level against playing right away. He'll have a much better shot at playing early at a mid-level program than he would at say an Iowa State.
Barton thinks that if Iowa State continues to recruit him and has the offer available in the spring, they'll certainly be right at the top of the list.
"One of his things is that he wants to play right away," Barton said.
