Hairston Ends It Shortly After ACC Offer

Just a day after receiving a scholarship offer from North Carolina, P.J. Hairston, a standout at Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley, opted to give Roy Williams and North Carolina a verbal pledge.

P.J. Hairston and North Carolina have been building a relationship for quite some time. Hairston took a number of unofficial visits to the Chapel Hill and he's spent a considerable amount of time around the Carolina coaching staff.

On Sunday the staff took the relationship further and offered him a scholarship. On Monday, Hairston became a Tar Heel.

"I did it," Hairston, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, told I'm going to be a Tar Heel."

"It's just exciting to know where I'm going," Hairston, who is ranked No. 19 overall in the class of 2011, said. "It's just exciting. I don't even know how to explain it."

Hairston, who picked Carolina over interest from Florida, Wake Forest and Memphis, called Roy Williams and gave him the news just before 8 o'clock.

"He actually kind of choked up when he was on the phone with my mom," the third rated shooting guard in the class of 2011 said.

Hairston, a four-star prospect, is the first commitment for the North Carolina in the 2011 class.
