Demarco Cox is a very good athlete. At 6-feet-8 and 300 pounds, he not only had a choice to make in terms of what school to attend but also which sport to play. On Tuesday, Cox put an end to any speculation.
It's football season in the deep south but Demarco Cox
isn't biting. The 6-foot-8, 300 pound big man out of Yazoo City (Miss.) High will sign a basketball scholarship this fall with the Ole Miss
"He's starting off doing basketball now but the option is open to switch to football later on," MBA Elite coach Omhar Carter told Scout.com. "He's a freak of nature. Ole Miss values him a lot. They value him as a bigger, more skilled Big Baby. It would be hard for him to switch over because he loves basketball."
Cox had received recruiting interest from a number of SEC schools including Tennessee and Alabama with North Carolina State taking a peek too.
"Toward the end, he wanted to stay close to home in the SEC and he decided to do Ole Miss. It's a family environment and he's close to his mom. I think his whole plan is to go in there and shed all the weight and turn it into muscle. If he does that, there's no telling what he'll do."
Cox is the second player to pick Andy Kennedy's program. Guard Dundrecous Nelson enlisted with the Rebels before the summer.
