What A Difference 24 Hours Makes

The dominoes were falling on Monday and a hunch led us to K.T. Harrell. At the time Harrell wasn't ready to decide but 24 hours later he's ACC-bound.

On Monday, K.T. Harrell didn't know where he was going to school. After speaking with him Monday night and cobbling up a story on shooting guard commitments we came to a reasonable conclusion that Harrell liked Virginia but wasn't ready to commit.

Fast-forward 24 hours and Harrell is a Cavalier.

"It just hit me," Harrell said. "I've been praying about it all day and I feel like that's the right fit for me. Virginia's always been at the top but I know that Virginia is the right school for me."

Harrell had Auburn, Arkansas, Georgia and Mississippi State on his final list.

The rising shooting guard out of Brewbaker Tech was the latest commitment in a rash of pledges by shooting guards. However, Harrell was steadfast and said the pledges had no impact on his decision. "No, not at all. It had nothing to do with it.

"Honestly, I didn't think I was going to commit until later. I prayed hard and I've been praying. I shouldn't waste time because I think Virginia is the right fit."

Tony Bennett, in his first year at Virginia, is developing a niche with recruits. In 2008, he signed Klay Thompson at Washington State. Thompson is the son of former Los Angeles Laker Mychal Thompson. Bennett has an NBA connection with Harrell and once again his three seasons spent with the Charlotte Hornets helped in recruiting.

"Coach Bennett played with Larry Johnson and my dad played with Larry Johnson when he was in junior college (at Odessa)."
