After mulling over scholarship offers from a number of high major programs, Parker, a standout at Charlottesville (Va.) The Miller School ended his recruitment Wednesday evening by committing to Maryland.
"He's going Maryland," Mychal's father Omar said. "He's going to go to Maryland."
"He's always been a good coach to me, plus he's a winner," the elder Parker said. "He's taken teams that are mediocre and took players that were talented and made them into professional players."
A number of schools showed heavy interest in Parker, who is ranked No. 55 overall by Scout.com. According to his father, Virginia, Georgetown, Florida, Miami, West Virginia and USC all showed varying levels of interest.
"I like [Chuck] Driesell and Gary Williams," Parker's father said. "They did a real good job recruiting him. They were just really interested in his individual status. They did a tremendous job with his recruitment."
Parker, a four-star prospect, is their third commitment from the 2010 class. Along with Parker, they now hold pledges from Terrence Ross and Terrell Stoglin.
