Golden Focusing On Three

Trae Golden has a great handle on his recruitment. Shortly he'll conduct in-homes and then bang out his official visits expeditiously and then it'll be decision time.

Trae Golden, a 6-foot-1 guard out of Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern, has a great handle on his school list. Scout.com's No. 82 prospect in the country has official visits set and he's ready to steam toward a decision.

"I've rounded some up some visits," Golden said. "I took an unofficial to UGA yesterday. I have an official set up for Virginia on Sept. 19. I think I'm going to Tennessee maybe Sept. 12. I have a couple in-homes set up and I might have one more visit after my Virginia visit and then I'll make my decision."

Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee appear to comprise his first-tier of schools. South Florida could make a push while Marquette and Pittsburgh are "hanging in there" but dragging their feet.

The Bulldogs, and first-year coach Mark Fox, have a built in advantage: location.

"For one, it's right down the road," Golden said. "Being that its right down the road, it's got a lot of advantages. Coach Fox has grown on me. Coach Palmore was recruiting me at Virginia Tech and then he moved. It's a good atmosphere and you can't get over that its right in your backyard.

"When my mom drives its and hour and 30 minutes. With my dad at the wheel it's an hour and 15. My mom drives like she's driving Miss Daisy."

Virginia's conference affiliation could help the Cavaliers.

"Coach Bennett and me … it's one of the top schools in the country academically. It's a good situation and it's in the ACC. Coach Bennett played in the NBA and he could develop me. They have good guys coming in K.T. Harrell, Joe Harris and Will Regan."

The Vols have mentioned, on occasion, the name Chris Lofton in their recruitment of Golden.

"They have mentioned that," Golden chuckled. "Jordan McRae's been working me ever since Josh Selby de-committed. He texts me almost everyday, talking about them. It's attractive to have someone you've played with already going there and Coach Pearl's record speaks for itself. Plus, Tennessee is only two hours from me."

Golden is going to make an informed decision this time around. He rushed a previous commitment to Ohio State and said after the in-homes, he'll bang out the official visits and he'll be ready to make his call.
