Holt Ready For The WCC

Stephen Holt has come to a decision. He plans to lace them up in the WCC.

One of, if not the best, point guards on the west coast has opted to end his recruitment.

Stephen Holt, of Portland (Ore.) Jesuit, gave Randy Bennett and the St. Mary's Gaels a verbal commitment late Tuesday night. Wednesday afternoon Holt confirmed the pledge.

"This past weekend I went on my official and I really loved the campus, the area , the players and ultimately the coaching staff. I really like them a lot."

Stanford, Portland and Northwestern all showed varying levels of interest, but Holt went with St. Mary's because of his feel for their coaches and also their style of play.

"The system that they run fits me perfectly," Holt said. "They rely heavily on their point guard to make good decisions in the offense and I feel like my style will do well in their offense."

Holt, who won a state title as a junior, is a three-star prospect. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound lead guard is ranked No. 24 at the point guard position in the 2010 recruiting class.

"I'm really happy wiht my decision," Holt said. "Its' been a long process, but it was well worth it."

This is the first verbal commitment for the Gaels in the 2010 class.
