Take No. 5 Kyrie Irving for example. The Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick stud has three visits scheduled and is in the midst of his home visits. "I'm definitely happy how it's going," Irving said. "As of right now, I'm just winging it."
Duke is his first official visit (Sept. 25) followed by Indiana (10/2) and then Texas A&M (10/9). Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Seton Hall and Virginia are the other schools contending for his final two visits.
The water cooler talk is that IU or Duke will land him. Irving hears what's being said. "I like to keep everybody on their seats. If everyone says I'm going to Duke or Indiana then that's their opinion."
His desire to impact as a freshman is a big part of his recruitment but it's not his only goal. "It's how comfortable I am with the coaches and how they are with my family. It'll be academics and what my role is in the offense."
So far so good on the in-homes. "Different coaches have their own way of approaching kids. As of right now, everyone who has been in has done a good job."
