The Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick standout, ranked No. 5 by Scout.com, eliminated Indiana from his list of contenders.
"It's just one of those things I didn't really tell anybody," Irving said. "It recently got confirmed that IU wasn't the best fit for me and there's no need to take an official visit."
Irving's father said the decision to eliminate Indiana was a collaborative effort. "We are appreciative of the coaching staff at Indiana University and their diligent efforts relative to pursuing Kyrie. However, we have collectively, decided to go in another direction going forward. I wish Indiana University continued success this upcoming season and their future endeavors."
Irving has filled out his visit list with Texas A&M on Oct. 9, Kentucky the following weekend and rounds out the process with Georgia Tech Oct. 23. Duke, the team many regarded as the strongest along with IU prior to the Hoosiers' elimination, will host Irving next weekend.
Irving left open the possibility of ending the process prior to the completion of all of the scheduled visits.
"I'm not even sure. It just depends on every visit. If I come home from a visit and it's the right school for me, there's no need to take any visits after that."
