Harris Caps Impressive SEC Haul

Damontre Harris, one of the most improved big men in the country, pledged his allegiance to the SEC over the weekend. Harris joins a program that dipped into the Top 100 three times this year.

South Carolina's basketball recruiting class is huge.

Damontre Harris, a 6-foot-9 center out of Fayetteville (N.C.) Trinity Christian, committed to the Gamecocks after looking at Florida, Maryland and VCU. Upcoming visits, according to his high school coach, have been cancelled.

"He and Sharhonda are most comfortable with Darrin and his staff," Trinity coach Heath Vandevender told Scout.com. "That's the place for Tre. They talked about it Sunday night and made it official this morning."

Harris is ranked No. 40 by Scout.com. He's made enormous strides since his junior season. Harris went from outside the Top 100 before sliding into the Top 50 at the end of last summer.

Harris is a long, athletic center with developing offensive skills and a commitment on defense to be a stopper. He's the highest-rated guy in USC's 2010 class which now includes three Scout.com Top 100 prospects.

South Carolina owns commitments from Harris (No. 40), Bruce Ellington (No. 52) and R.J. Slawson (No. 69) in addition to guards Brian Richardson and Eric Smith.
