Not Your Run of The Mills Guard

Sam Mills is a guy flying a touch below the radar. We caught his act late in the summer and he's about to take his first official visit this weekend.

Some guys seek the spotlight, others avoid it. Then there are the few that haven't found out what its like to operate in the spotlight … yet.

Sam Mills, a 6-foot-3 combo guard out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons is one of those good players flying below the radar. This weekend, he'll take his first official visit of the year and he's off to Marshall. "I'm most likely going to set one up with Delaware," Mills told

Mills' method for determining visits was simple: scan the crowd. "They were there almost everywhere I went. I noticed them almost every game."

Mills tossed in 15 points a game last season but was, in his own words, "nothing spectacular."

Over the summer, Mills noticed himself making a jump with his game. "From last year to this year I was more in attack mode, getting my teammates involved and trying to make the right choices. I think I've developed equal passing and attacking skills."

To better himself, Mills takes to watching Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Derrick Rose. Each, he said, taught him the value of playing in attack mode.

As for picking a school, Mills said it may take a while. "I'm not sure yet. I think most likely it'll be after the first period."

Florida State, which had him on campus last spring, is looking at him. He's heard from Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Tulane and Auburn.

"I'm going to take all my visits in and see which school will be best."
