DeSoto's Davis Finds His Fit

Most recruiting junkies are used to hearing "DeSoto" and "football" in the same sentence. Not this time, senior forward Keith Davis has made it as a basketball player.

DeSoto High has aided the Aggies football team in a big way over the years. Now, Chris Dyer's program has produced one for Mark Turgeon's Texas A&M hoops squad.

On Monday morning, power forward Keith Davis floated a 5 a.m. text message to the head coach telling him he'd like to commit. Davis, who hasn't taken the SAT yet therefore he's been unable to take officials, was down to A&M and Texas.

"He had a terrific summer and everybody caught wind of him," Dyer said. "Texas A&M had been here since Day One. Others jumped in this summer. When school started and they were able to come up, they were here."

Last season, the four-star recruit helped DeSoto win the hoops state title.

"He was a big part of our success. Once we got him on the floor – he hasn't played a whole lot now – bringing him off the bench gave us a lot of options. He bought into everything we did about playing defense first and going hard. He was instrumental."
