Southwell Goes With Big 12 Program

Shane Southwell has known where he's wanted to attend college for quite some time. On Monday he ended his recruitment.

Shane Southwell is heading to Manhattan (Kans.) to play college basketball.

Just a week after his official visit to Kansas State, Southwell, a 6-foot-7 combo forward out of New York (N.Y.) Rice, gave Frank Martin and his staff a verbal commitment.

"I knew for some time that I was going to make this decision to go to Kansas State," Southwell told Scout.com. "I like the family atmosphere that they have. The campus is beautiful and the fans were going crazy."

Southwell picked Kansas State over interest from a host of programs, including scholarship offers from South Carolina, Providence and Marquette. he said he's known he wanted to go to Kansas State since early September.

"What separated them was the fact that Curtis [Kelly] and Jordan [Henriques] go to the school and I felt comfortable there," he said. " I had the best head coach relationship at Kansas State too. They are the only school that is going to allow me to play the point and the shooting guard."

Southwell, a three-stare prospect, is currently rated as the 25th best small forward in the 2010 class. He joins Will Spradling, a three-star prospect, to make up the Wildcats 2010 recruiting class.
