Pitchford Connects With Big East Roots

Big man Walter Pitchford of New Creations, committed Monday night to a program that essentially will bring him home.

DePaul had a family connection with Richmond (Ind.) New Creations center Walter Pitchford. Billy Garrett, a DePaul assistant had a link to Pitchford's brother. Garrett doesn't show his age but used his connections to help the Blue Demons.

"How old where you when you were coaching our son? About 15? Billy's 46," Walter Pitchford, Sr., told Scout.com. Garrett coached Walter, Jr.'s brother at Hales Franciscan where he was an assistant early in his career. He'll help coach the next Pitchford next fall at DePaul.

Walter Pitchford, Jr., committed to Jerry Wainright's Blue Demons Monday night. He'll visit the school officially for Midnight Madness.

DePaul conducted a home visit with Pitchford on Sunday. "It was a little inspirational but more or less Walt listened to the head coach."

Pitchford is originally from Chicago. His father said he relished the chance to help the Blue Demons rebuild with local talent. "Basically, the opportunity to get in a program where he can help rebuild it back to where it was before if they continue to do the recruiting that they're starting to do."
