Kirk Gets Satisfaction Thru In-State School

Alex Kirk (No. 80, made his college decision Monday night. The skilled big man elected to stay close to home for college.

The Kirk Family is a tight knit group. Alex's father was going to see his son play a lot regardless of where he signed. Arizona is a nine hour drive, New Mexico is an hour and a half. Let's just say the Kirk's are about to save money on a college education and at the pump.

On Monday night, with New Mexico assistant Craig Neal in the home, the Los Alamos center ranked No. 80 by, committed to the Lobos.

For Alex Kirk, the chance to play a significant role early in his career was a big deal. "I might have the chance to be really good there and they'll get me to where I can go to the next level. I'll get a lot of experience because I'll be able to play early."

Kirk attended the NBAPA Top 100 Camp in June and worked his way into the Top 100 this spring. A strong passer, he's shown signs of being a very good scoring threat with touch to mid-range. He's a significant signee for Steve Alford's crew.

"I'd like to become a bigger, stronger player and helping become a good teammate."
