Marshall Dips Into Juco Waters

Marshall coach Donnie Jones secured a commitment from a proven commodity: a forward who can score. Stedman Short will have two years of eligibility to play for the Thundering Herd beginning next fall.

Stedman Short turned in a strong season at High Point last year. A coaching change had him re-evaluate his situation and the next thing you know, he's an accounting major at Chipola Junior College.

After averaging seven points and five rebounds last year, the Simpsonville (S.C.) native headed further south for one season in hopes of boosting his recruitment.

Mission accomplished.

On Tuesday, the 6-foot-8 forward committed to Marshall after receiving offers from Colorado and Western Kentucky. Missouri and West Virginia were showing interest.

"He's a business major here," first-year Chipola coach Jake Headrick told Scout.com. "He really just wanted to come here to better his recruitment."

Short is a versatile guy. "I think the first thing that stands out is his size, length and athleticism," Headrick said. "He can score in the post and shoot to 18 feet."
