Tigers Land 2004 Commitment

Jonesboro, Ga.--One of the nation's top high school junior basketball players has given a very early verbal commitment to the Auburn Tigers.

Toney Douglas, combo one-two guard from Jonesboro High School, tells Inside the Auburn Tigers that he will sign with Auburn next season as a senior.

Douglas is averaging 29.3 points per game, 7.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals.

"I really liked the coaching staff at Auburn" Douglas says. "They have shown me a lot of love and let me know that I am wanted there."

Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, Oklahoma, FSU, LSU, Tennessee, UConn and Alabama had shown interest.

When asked what he sees as his strengths, Douglas says, "Dribbling the basketball, shooting and driving to to the basket," he says.

The combination point guard/shooting guard has led Jonesboro High to an 18-2 record and a No. 6 ranking in the state. He has a high-point game of 42 points and has been named the Atlanta Tipoff Club Player of the month and MVP of a Christmas tournament.
