Carroll To The Big East

Austin Carroll has wanted to play in the Big East all his life. He will now get that chance. He made a verbal commitment to a Big East program.

Austin Carroll was down to two schools -- Rutgers and Harvard. Now he's down to one.

Tuesday afternoon he made his pick to play for Fred Hill and Ruger in the Big East.

"The first reason is because they are in the Big East," Carroll said about his decision. "Being from the east coast that was always important to me and I wanted to play in the Big East."

"I really like their coaching staff," he added about Rutgers. "Coach Savino was the main one who recruited me. I really got along with him and was impressed with their coaching staff."

Carroll, a standout at Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster, took official visits to both Harvard and Rutgers.

"It was great," Carroll said of his visit to Rutgers. "The only thing I didn't get to do was see their guys play so I went down the week after my visit to see them practice. Everything was great about my visit."

Rutgers has been recruiting the 6-foot-3 shooting guard for quite some time, but he didn't get offered until his first visit to their campus.

"They came up a year ago when I was at Worcester and explained their whole situation to me," he said. "Then they saw me play in the summer and towards the beginning of the fall coach Hill said he wanted me to come down for a visit to see what I thought. That weekend he offered me."

Carroll is Rutgers first commitment for the 2010 class.
