Duren Explores Options, Commits

Tyreek Duren used an old fashioned, time tested recruiting tactic. He studied playing time and made his decision.

For the second year in a row, Dr. John Giannini's LaSalle Explorers won a tough recruiting battle. Last year, Aaric Murray committed to the program when he had Big East options.

This time, Tyreek Duren committed to the Explorers after a fierce intraconference Atlantic 10 battle involving the Explorers, Massachusetts and Temple.

Duren, the point guard for Team Final and backcourt mate of Tony Chennault at Philadelphia's Neumann-Goretti High, visited all of the schools and was a priority for each head coach.

"I think it was more because they needed a point guard. I think in the year's to come they'll be one of the best teams in the A-10 with Aaric Murray and Earl Pettis."

As a junior, Duren averaged 12 points a game. He hit his stride this spring. "We had a good time, I was in the mix. As we won more tournaments my confidence was high. It was crazy, it kind of happened overnight."
