Hubert Takes Trips

Desmund Hubert is doing his homework early. The talented 2011 big man recently took six unofficial visits and wants to take a few more.

After an impressive spring and summer, Desmond Hubert, a 2010 standout at New Egypt (N.J.) High, began picking up interest from a number of high major college basketball programs.

"It really picked up this year right in the beginning of AAU season," Hubert told "For me I think it was because I started playing a lot better."

"Last year I didn't get to play that much because I got hurt, but this year I got to play and I was healthy during the high school and AAU season and I really took advantage of that," he added.

Among the schools that have offered the 6-foot-8, 195-pound center are Pittsburgh and Penn State. He's also scored interest from Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Texas, Xavier, Kansas, Kentucky and Virginia Tech

"It's going good," Hubert said of his recruitment. "It's starting to slow down now I guess because everybody is starting their season. But it's going good. I've got a bunch of good schools recruiting me."

A few weeks ago, Hubert had a week off from school, so he opted to take unofficial visits to Wake Forest, UNC, Duke, N.C. State, Pittsburgh and Penn State.

"They were all different," Hubert said. "…Wake Forest had the nicest campus. Their campus is beautiful. Then Duke's facilities were amazing. But then when I went to Pitt I had a lot of fun out there and it's a fun city. I went to the Pitt/Notre Dame and it was packed."

Although he's visit a number of the schools involved in his recruitment, Hubert made it clear that he still hasn't developing a favorite.

"There are still a few more schools that I want to visit before I come up with a top five or anything," Hubert said. "I want to get to Xavier and Texas. I want to check out Kansas and maybe Kentucky."

Despite no favorite, Hubert does have a timeframe for a decision.

"Hopefully before my senior season starts I can make my decision and know where I'm going."
