Fontan A Hot Commodity

Jio Fontan, a former Fordham guard, is on the visit trail.'s No. 13 point man from 2008 has his pick of colleges.

Jio Fontan is a hot commodity and for good reason. ranked him the No. 13 point guard in the Class of 2008. During his 33-game career at Fordham, Fontan averaged 35 minutes a night, 15 points and nearly 5 rebounds.

In short, he's a proven commodity and he's being treated as such by high-major programs.

"It's unbelievable," Fontan said. "Coming out of high school I only took one visit so it was awesome to see what some of the big programs have to offer. Just to be there yourself and see the practice facility and see how teams are ran and are sponsored by a big time sneaker company, it was different and I'm dying to be a part of that."

Fontan visited Miami and enjoyed his time with Frank Haith's Hurricanes. "They're up there with all the schools I'm considering. There's no leader and no one in last place. Miami was great, I loved the coaches. They're genuine guys and it was a great experience."

Fontan visits USC this weekend and then potentially a post-Christmas trip to Tennessee. He could take visits into mid-January if needed but his preference would be to commit to a school on Jan. 5, his birthday.

Alabama, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Maryland, Virginia and Arizona have shown varying degrees of interest.

Fontan will run with the Puerto Rican national team this summer.

In related news, Fordham coach Jared Grasso has a new point guard. Centereach (N.Y.) guard Rayner Moquette will be eligible to play for the Rams Dec. 29.
