Barksdale Calls It For In-State School

C.J. Barksdale wanted to hand out a Christmas present to his family and his new basketball family. The result was a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech.

The Virginia Tech Hokies have their second commitment from the Class of 2011. C.J. Barksdale, Scout.com's No. 28 prospect in his class, committed to the Hokies are reviewing offers from Maryland, Virginia and Alabama.

"Everybody was in for the Christmas holiday was on the move and I thought that would be a good Christmas present," Barksdale of his decision. "I think the atmosphere and going there I already seemed like I was a part of the family. I had a relationship with them that I didn't have with other schools."

Barksdale played at last year's NBA Top 100 Camp and is a big double-double producer for one of the state's top high school programs, Danville (Va.) George Washington.

The Hokies own a commitment from wing Robert Brown and now Barksdale becomes one of the highest rated recruits to sign with Seth Greenberg. The 6-foot-8 Barksdale was sold by Greenberg's pitch.

"They said and they showed me examples of how they use their power forward. I say myself playing in that kind of role and they compared me to Jeff Allen."
