Four-Star Royal Steps Up Play

One of the top performers at the City of Palms Classic was Julian Royal and we caught up with him shortly after the holiday basketball tournament.

Off the court, Julian Royal is a man of few words.

On the hardwood, the Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton standout is letting his game speak loudly. At the prestigious City of Palms Classic last week, Royal averaged 18.5 points and nearly eight rebounds through four games.

"It's been going pretty well for us so far," Royal said of his junior season. "I think I did pretty well at that tournament."

Offensively the 6-foot-8 big man was consistent and efficient. He took great shots, scored around the rim and showed an ability to step away from the basket and knock down mid-range jumpers.

"I guess one of the big things I've tried to work on was creating shots for myself," Royal told Scout.com.

College programs are lining up for Royal's services. Among the schools showing him attention are Wake Forest, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Ohio State, Maryaland, Northwestern, Oregon State and Virginia Tech.

"It's been going pretty well," the four-star prospect said of his recruitment. "I'll probably decide where I want to go next spring some time."

"Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State those are the ones that have been calling a lot," Royal responded when asked which schools had made him a priority.

With the season in full swing, Royal doesn't have any visits planned for the near future. He does, however, want to knock out some trips once the season comes to an end.

"I don't know what schools I'm going to visit, but probably after the season I'm going to go out and visit some schools," Royal said.
