McClure: One Visit Complete, Another Planned

Swingman David McClure is prepared to take advantage of the relatively new rule which allows juniors to take official visits. He's already been to one Big East campus and his next trip will be to an ACC program.

Blue Devils Get Next Visit

Trinity Catholic 6-6 small forward David McClure has been a busy guy. His high school team is 13-1 and undefeated in the conference. He's averaging 16 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. "We have such a good team this year," McClure said. "Each night someone can go out and score 20."

Recently, McClure took advantage of an NCAA rule allowing juniors to take official visits earlier than ever before. "It's a good rule. For me, I want it to get done early. Other guys want to weigh their options more and if someone wants to commit early then they might lose their spot."

McClure has no intention of losing his spot. He recently made an official visit to Notre Dame and from an Irish perspective; it must have gone pretty well. "I actually loved it down there. I was there for the Pitt game and it was a good weekend for me to be down there. I loved the whole atmosphere down there. It basically reinforced some stuff."

So, do they lead? "As of now, Notre Dame is leading but it's also been my only official visit. It would be unfair to say but at the same time I did love it."

Can you guess where McClure is headed next? If you said Duke, nice job. Mike Krzyzewski recently watched McClure play and during that game the junior caught a cheap shot that resulted in 8 stitches. Now, Duke wants to bring him to Durham for a visit.

He's going to Duke the weekend of Feb. 28. "They haven't offered but they told me that they are very interested." Prior to serving as the head coach at Notre Dame and Delaware, Brey was the No. 1 assistant for Krzyzewski in Durham, winning a pair of national titles with the Blue Devils.

McClure also expressed an interest in North Carolina State and Florida State. He said that Connecticut was at a recent game and that Jim Calhoun was going to come out and watch him shortly after he recovers from surgery.

McClure sports a 3.4 GPA and travels with the Playaz Basketball Club.
