"I was rooting for them and they lost. It was a heartbreaker," Norris told Scout.com. "It was a heartbreaker to all of us. I told myself that was the place I would like to play one day."
Fast forward to Monday, the day when Norris, Class of 2011 out of Houston (Tex.) Sam Houston, accepted a scholarship offer to play for the Memphis Tigers and Josh Pastner. A native of Houston, Pastner has deep ties to the area and has mined them well in the past. However, Anthony Norris is a Tiger because he fell in love with Tiger basketball.
"I knew that's where I wanted to go since I was in the 7th grade. That was a goal for me. It was amazing. The year that then really made me like them was the year it was Derrick Rose, Robert Dozier, Chris Douglas-Roberts … and then I liked Tyreke Evans last year a lot."
Colorado State offered him as did the Tigers. But, the Tigers blanketed him and as a staff, made it clear he was their guy.
"All of the coaches have been here except for one coach."
