AROUND THE NATION – DeShaun Thomas seems to have a radar lock on Damon Bailey. Could he become the Hoosier State's all-time leading scorer? He's getting closer


DeShaun Thomas became Indiana's No. 4 all-time scorer as he dumped 42 points on Ft. Wayne Snider. He's roughly 500 points away from catching Damon Bailey and taking over the top spot.

Joe Jackson and junior Andre Hollins split 44 points in White Station's 76-68 win over Mitchell.

Late last week, Utah signee Kyle Collinsworth's tough shot dumped Lehi and gave Provo a 48-46 win. Collinsworth finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds.

Pinecrest, the two-time defending 3A champs, routed Archbishop McCarthy 89-48 and guess who was the leader? That's right, senior Brandon Knight went for 40 points as his team improved to 13-2.

The freight train known as Jared Sullinger rolled as Northland beat Linden 95-33. Big Sully dumped 26 points and probably watched a good portion of the game next to his father, Satch.

Kings Fork is one of the top teams in the state of Virginia and Davante Gardner is an unsigned center we've liked since the summer. Kings Fork beat Lakeland by 42 and Gardner had 21 and 12.

Xavier-bound wing Jay Canty dropped 32 points in Oak Ridge Military's 88-74 win over Mack Academy. Calvin Newell, Mack's unsigned scoring threat, dropped 20.

Josh Smith is back. The UCLA-bound center scored 10 points as Kentwood beat Tahoma. It was Smith's first game back since getting injured last month.

Minnesota Transitions got 29 points from Boston College bound big man Kevin Noreen though it wasn't enough as Transitions lost by 3 to Minnetonka. Cole Steffan had 26 for the winners.

Cedar Hill beat Duncanville 52-49 Monday night. Senior Tanner Milson had 15 points. For Duncanville, Perry Jones scored 10 points, right within his season average.

Somebody needs to give scoring machine Corey Raley-Ross a scholarship. The Harding senior pumped in 27 points and has scored it well all year long. Harding beat Charlotte Catholic by nine.

Ballou senior Donte Thomas scored 27 points as he and his team handed McKinley an 83-42 setback.

Leek Leek had 25 points as Wesleyan beat Cannon School and Jarell Eddie by four. Eddie scored 10 points.

Earl McLaurin found his stroke and the lefty got it done for Hopewell. He scored 17 points and Jordan Downing (Davidson) kicked in 15 in Hopewell's win over Vance. Sophomore Braxton Ogbueze scored 23 for Vance and Marquis Rankin had 5 points and 9 assists in the loss.

Junior wing Gary Bell got off … again. Last month he dropped 55 in a game, this time out he went for 38 points in a win over Jefferson. Bell averages 25.9 on the year.

In case you missed it, junior Jabari Brown is no longer at Findlay Prep. He's back California at Oakland High and the last time out he went for 33 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Sacramento.

Melrose is undefeated and made short work of Memphis East. Juniors Chris Jones and Adonis Thomas combined for 39 points. Bobby Parks chipped in with 10 of his own for the victors.

Deuce Bello scored 22 points in Westchester's 66-38 win over Burlington Christian. Bello also had 6 steals and his team improved to 13-1.

Traveling team mates Shane Larkin and Robert Brown squared off with Larkin's Dr. Phillips team beating East Ridge 63-56. Larkin scored 20 points and Brown, a Hokies commit, finished with 10.

Late last week, Chaminade fell at home to CBC. Bradley Beal came in averaging 29 points a night and put up 25 points but it wasn't enough as his team dropped to 10-2 overall.

Kemper County sophomore Devonta Pollard, according to the Meridian Star, put on a show. Kemper blasted Clarkdale 83-33 and in three quarters, Pollard amassed 23 points, 8 rebounds, 7 blocks and a steal. Enough said.

Winston Salem Prep freshman Greg McClinton had 10 assists and 7 points in his team's 83-61 win over North Surry. Senior Anthony Thomas pumped in 25 of his own.

Good stuff from Scott Phillips in the Chi-Town area. …

Arizona State signee Corey Hawkins is getting it done. The Estrella Foothills senior is averaging 34.2 points and 11 rebounds through 17 games. Mix in 3 assists and 4 steals and it's a heckuva season. More importantly, he's shooting 43% behind the arc and that translates well for the Sun Devils who rely on the deep ball. Corey is 419 points away from breaking Mike Bibby's state scoring record. He has 2.583 points. Bibby scored 3,002. …
