Nastic Pulled To Pac-10

Stefan Nastic, a Serbian born big man who resides in Canada, committed to Stanford over the weekend. Nastic is the 5th member of Stanford's strong class.

The Stanford Cardinal added to its outstanding haul of senior players. Johnny Dawkins and his Cardinal offered and accepted a commitment from Serbian born 6-foot-11 big man Stefan Nastic. Nastic attends Thornhill Secondary School in Ontario, Canada.

Nastic has international experience as he was a member of the Serbian U16 National team. He trained last summer with the U18 squad. Since he's only 17, there was talk of Nastic possibly being a member of the Class of 2011 but he will indeed attend Stanford next fall.

"We were (at Stanford) in the beginning of the year and we did an official visit," Slavisa Nastic, Stefan's father told "It was our first visit. He went through the admissions process and he got accepted. He decided he wanted to go there."

"He thinks its the best combination of academics and athletics," Mira Nastic told

Head coaches from Stanford, Virginia, Georgetown, FIU, Marquette, Rhode Island and UNLV dropped in to see him. According to Nastic's father, they were unanimous in their praise and vision for his son. UCLA, Duke, Oregon State, Santa Clara, Cal and a host of others were strongly looking at him.

"Not only Stanford but every other university said he's a very versatile type of player who can play inside and with himself facing the basket. All of them agreed that he's a complete player and still has a lot to work on his game. The qualities that he has, he can really be an inside-outside player who can play the four position, five definitely and with the possibility of developing even further."

Over the weekend, the recruiting process ended because Nastic found his fit. "This was the first visit for him and for us and we think it's the right one. Instead of going around, we think we still would have come back to this one. Some people take a lot more time but for us we decided this was the best choice."

Nastic joins a Top 15 class that includes small forward Josh Huestis, center Dwight Powell, small forward Anthony Brown, center John Gage and point guard Aaron Bright.
