Mayes Makes The Call

Jordin Mayes is off the board. One of the better available combo guards is headed to the Pac-10.

The Arizona Wildcats secured a commitment from one of the top available guards. Jordin Mayes, an outstanding student and player out of Los Angeles Westchester, committed to the Wildcats on Monday.

"The thing was, we were open," Jordin's father Darryel Mayes told Scout.com. "I made that clear that it was going to be a process. Just like they evaluate talent, we had to evaluate coaches and programs. My job was to put him in the right situation where he could continue to grow and advance in that program and they use you for who you are."

The 6-foot-1 Mayes didn't sign early and waited to review his options. He visited Boston College, Utah and California before settling in on the Wildcats.

"Long story short, it just seems like Arizona is a good fit. It's a new era at Arizona. Coach Miller is fresh on the scene and they have to win. He liked Jordin for who he is and he can see himself growing with that program."

Mayes averages 15 points a game as a senior for Westchester.
