Glaze Pops For Mountain West

Junior Grandy Glaze is heading to the Mountain West where he'll play for the Runnin' Rebels.

UNLV men's basketball team begins its quest for the national championship later this week. Lon Kruger's team will get a national media bump once the event begins and that's never a bad thing for recruiting.

Late Sunday night, the Rebels received their first commitment from a member of the Class of 2011. Grandy Glaze, a 6-foot-6 power forward out of Andover (N.H.) Proctor Academy picked the Runnin' Rebels. South Florida, West Virginia, Akron, Ohio State and St. Joseph's were eyeballing the Canadian.

"He's been there twice for two of their elite camps," Team Takeover Canada coach Mike George said. "He was home from March break and he wanted to get it out of the way. He wants to focus on completing his academics and working on his game. He likes the way they play and their system."

Glaze is the classic undersized, thick bodied, hard-playing power forward. He's got a motor and a body built for contact in the lane. George said UNLV values what his game is about and Glaze relishes the role of strong man inside.

"He's 100 percent comfortable. With UNLV, they have a history of working with guys who fly under the radar. They can help the undersize guy become pros whether it be overseas or in the NBA."
