Rivers Opens Up Recruitment

Austin Rivers continued to add new schools to his list, so on Thursday he opted to decommit from Florida and open up his recruitment.

Austin Rivers has officially re-opened his recruitment.

The No. 4 prospect in the 2011 class committed to Florida early in his high school career, but later added Duke and North Carolina to his list of schools.

Now the 6-foot-3 junior will is opening his recruitment and will continue to weight his options. He confirmed the news to Scout.com this morning.

"Yeah I [decommitted]," Rivers told Scout.com. "I mean I don't want to call it decommit. I would say I'm reopening it. Decommit sounds so negative."

"I'm still interested in Florida," he continued. "I just reopened it so it would be easier for me to be recruited by other schools without making it awkward."

The news was originally reported by John Watson, of TheDevilsDen.

Although he's decommitted from Florida, Rivers told Watson that they are still in contention, as well as the two schools on Tobacco Road.

"Right now I'm looking at three schools: Duke, Florida, and North Carolina," Rivers said. "I may open it up a little more later on, but right now it's just going to be those three programs."

"I have a long history with both Duke and Florida. North Carolina is trying to recruit me as well. So, we'll see what happens."

Rivers, the nation's top shooting guard in the class of 2011, will begin play on the Nike AAU circuit this weekend at the Boo Williams tournament.
