Newell Signs With Big 12 School

Calvin Newell is off the board. The talented guard of Charlotte (N.C.) Evelyn Mack Academy signed his Letter of Intent.

Calvin Newell ended his college recruitment on Monday.

The 6-foot, 185-pound point guard signed with Jeff Capel and the University of Oklahoma. He also entertained interest from Baylor, UConn, West Virginia, Niagra, SMU and Providence.

Oklahoma announced the signing this afternoon. Capel said Newell is the type of point guard that they were looking to bring in.

"Calvin is a talented young man who we are excied to welcome into the Sooner family," Capel said. "He is known as a terrific offensive player. He is a humble kid with a good work ethic. I'm anxious to work with him."

Newell joins Oklahoma's class that also consists of T.J. Taylor, Cameron Clark, Tyler Nearl, as well as JUCO transfer Nick Thompson and C.J. Washington. Carl Blair, formerly of New Orleans, is also headed to OU.

Newell averaged 26.1 points during this senior eason.
