Cajun Country Calls Frye

Jonathan Frye's journey took a few turns this spring. However, in the end he found a home at Tulane in Conference USA.

Jonathan Frye wasn't supposed to be a free agent this spring. The 6-foot-5 wing out of Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford signed early with Appalachian State and thought that was it. Well, things didn't go according to plan and Frye found himself in the middle of a new recruitment.

After obtaining his release from Appalachian State once Buzz Peterson took the UNC-Wilmington job, Frye looked hard at the Seahawks and Tulane. On Wednesday, he signed with Ed Conroy's Green Wave.

"They just had the best package for me as far as with basketball fitting in. I love the coaching staff. It's a great academic school. I'll walk away with a degree that will put me further than basketball can. I had a great feel on campus. It's a big city but when you get on campus it doesn't feel that way."

A state champion as a junior, Frye carved out a reputation as a good shooter, strong board man for his size and sneaky athlete.

Conroy will put all of those attributes to work next season.

"They showed me game tape of how they played at The Citadel. They see me coming in at the two guard, knocking down the open shot and fitting in with their style of play."
