Powell's Recruitment Expanding

Norman Powell, one of the elite prospects in the country for 2011, is starting to draw interest from programs across the country...

Norman Powell, 6-2 JR SG San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln, had another strong showing this past weekend at the Pangos camp. The best athlete in the west, Powell has improved a great deal in the past several months and there is an argument to be made that he's the top overall prospect in the West Coast class of 2011.

I spoke with Powell at the camp and asked about the schools that have been recruiting him.

"I'm hearing from UCLA, Cal, Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, Uconn, San Diego State, Colorado, Georgetown and Syracuse," said Powell. "I'm wide open right now."

I asked Powell which schools have extended scholarship offers.

"UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, San Diego State," said Powell. "Uconn said they will offer Monday."

Powell recently took an unofficial visit to UCLA and he was asked about that trip.

"I liked it, it was a fun trip," said Powell. "I like the staff, the school and the campus."

Powell talked a little about the issues he'll consider when picking a school.

"I'd like to be able to go in and play right away," said Powell. "And I want to be part of a winning program."

When asked about the areas of his game that he needs to work on, Powell replied, "I need to work on my left hand and getting more arc on my shot."
