Sampson Makes A Move To The Wing

Jakaar Sampson is on the rise. The talented Ohio native is having a big spring and has picked up a few new scholarship offers.

Jakaar Sampson started as a face up four man. Now he's making the move to the wing full time.

"I know I have an inside game because I've been a post player my whole life, but now I've added something different to my game to mix it up," Sampson told

A 6-foot-7, 190-pound standout at Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent St. Mary, Sampson is a high level athlete with a developing skill set. He's got good speed, his ball handling is improving and his jump shot is starting to come around.

"I think I've been playing great," Sampson said. "My jumper has been falling and I've been working on it all summer long. My dribbling has gotten better and I'm more comfortable away from the hoop."

As his game has improved, so have his college looks. In fact, he recently picked up a few new scholarship offers.

"Louisville has now offered me and I'm looking at them hard," Sampson, a four-star prospect, said. "USC has gotten into the mix and everything is going good."

To go with those offers, he claims interest from Xavier, Michigan State, Dayton, Miami, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Tennessee and Baylor.

"I'm starting to feel it out a little bit more," he said of the recruiting process. "I'm not going to make a decision until the end of AAU season or beginning of high school."

As far as favorites go, Sampson said there are a few schools starting to separate themselves from the pack.

"I really like Louisville," he said. "I'm going to visit them during the summer. My mom really likes Xavier and Michigan State."

"Zach [Price] going there and he's my boy," he added when asked why he liked Louisville. "I like their coach and they get out and run. That's my pace."

Sampson has a busy summer planned. To go with his upcoming visit to Louisville, Sampson will participate in the NBA Camp next week and then the Nike Skills Academies.
