Johnson To 3; Decision Coming

Tyrone Johnson isn't messing around. Scout.com's No. 70 prospect in the senior class is close to deciding and to get the ball rolling he's trimmed up his list.

The Big East is going to add a point guard in the near future. Who's going to get Tyrone Johnson, a 6-foot-2 point (Scout.com No. 70) out of Plainfield, N.J.?

"Villanova, Rutgers and Georgetown are the finalists," Johnson's traveling team coach Derrick Bobbitt told Scout.com. "He's been on all the campuses on more than one occasion."

Johnson, whose length and solid athleticism fared him well at last week's NBA Camp, was offered a scholarship by Rutgers Fred Hill and then the situation was re-affirmed by Mike Rice. Georgetown and Villanova laid out offers as well.

The interesting news out of the Johnson Camp is the timing of this whole recruitment. It appears that Johnson wants to decide on his terms and isn't going to wait around long. "He's mulling it over," Bobbitt said. "He's looking at the pros and cons of each school.

"A decision should be coming soon. I don't want to put a timetable on it but maybe within a week or two. It'll be before Peach Jam or maybe LeBron."

Johnson's smart in this respect. He's got his short list and he's happy with the choices. He's not about to be beaten to the punch by another guard.

"He wants to be sure he can make his own choice. As far as situations go, those are good situations. He's familiar with these guys and he's been pretty much their No. 1 guy at all three schools."
