Pitt Scores In 2012

Jamie Dixon is big in New Zealand. That's right, the Pittsburgh coach has a rep overseas and he's cashed in on it in a big way. The Panthers landed a 2012 big on Friday.

There's no doubt they love Jamie Dixon in Pittsburgh but on Friday, we learned that the Panthers head coach is worldlier than we thought.

Word is, Dixon is big in … New Zealand.

As a player and coach, Dixon spent a portion of his life overseas in New Zealand last year coached a USA team that participated in the country. His reputation there is impeccable and on Friday he cashed in on his connections.

Steven Adams, a 7-foot member of the Class of 2012, according to a source, committed to play for the Panthers.

Adams attends Scots College High School and has an extensive background in international ball. As a 16-year old, he was the MVP of New Zealand's 19-and-under national team.

"I want to try and make the NBA," Adams told an overseas newspaper. "My hero is [Orlando Magic superstar] Dwight Howard."

The commitment gives Pittsburgh a presence in the rising junior class. Adams has his sights set on the NBA but for a few years, the Big East will have to do.
