Upshaw's Recruitment Expanding

Robert Upshaw, the top rated center in the west for 2012, says he's hearing from schools all over the country...

Robert Upshaw, 6-11 JR C Fresno (Calif.) Edison, is the top prospect in the west at his position, so it's no surprise that he's receiving recruiting attention from schools across the country.

"I don't really have a list because I'm hearing from so many schools," said Upshaw. "A lot of schools from the Pac-10, the Big 12, Big East…just all over. I'm open to everyone right now."

Upshaw said he has visited one school so far unofficially.

"I went to UCLA for their camp," said Upshaw. "It was awesome. I played hard and did what I had to do. Coach Howland is a good guy and he showed me some stuff.

Upshaw said he probably won't take any more unofficial visits in the near future.

"Probably sometime during the middle of my junior year I will take some visits," said Upshaw.

I asked Upshaw what he is looking for in a school.

"Just all around good academics, a nice area, a school that has a good basketball history," said Upshaw. "But it's not just about basketball, I'm going to be a student athlete."

Upshaw said he doesn't anticipate making an early decision.

"I probably won't decide until the spring signing period during my senior year," said Upshaw.

Upshaw said he currently has a 2.7 GPA.
