Demps Makes Decision

Tre Demps made his college decision just as his recruitment was beginning to heat up. He'll play in the Big Ten.

Tre Demps is off the board.

After a strong outing at the King City Classic in Cleveland at the beginning of the month a number of schools began recruiting the 6-foot-2 combo guard.

On Sunday, Demps put his recruitment to bed, giving Northwestern a verbal commitment.

"I just felt academically it was the best fit seeing that I want to get into journalism," Demps told "Also Northwestern is a place where I have a good chance of coming in and starting right away".

Demps, a standout at San Antonio (Tex.) Ronald Reagon, picked Northwestern over interest from Minnesota, Colorado and Vanderbilt.

"I also feel like with the pieces we have coming in, we can compete for a Big 10 championship."

Demps is the second guard to give the Wildcats a verbal commitment in the 2011 class. He joins Illinois native David Sobolewski to make up their current class.
