Point Man Still Available

We figured that after a stellar performance at the Prime Time Shootout, point guard Japhet McNeil would be courted by just about everyone seeking a leader. Well, things aren't moving quite that quickly.

One of The Top Remaining Guards

Christ The King point guard Japhet McNeil should have more suitors or at least more schools stepping up and making offers. In our opinion, he's the top pure point guard out there. He's not the biggest, but he does a nice job of running a team and passing the basketball. Mid-majors should be all over him.

According to his mother Wanda McNeil, he's hearing from UNC-Greensboro and South Carolina calls some too. Florida International, St. Peter's, Bradley and Binghamton are also in the mix and we've heard from our sources that Siena, Manhattan, East Carolina and Wisconsin-Green Bay are sniffing around too.

"He practices 7 days a week," Wanda McNeil said, "he's committed. I can't ask for a better kid. If he wasn't mine I would say the same thing."

McNeil took an unofficial to St. Peter's at the beginning of the season. Other than that, he's pretty much stayed put. According to his mother, he's got the grades so academics shouldn't be a problem.

Last year, McNeil sported long dread locks and his mother wondered if the hair style kept some schools away. "I was hearing through different coaches that it might have [been an issue] so we cut it."

Right now he's just waiting for a school that likes, his mother said. "All the kids want to go to a big time school but I think Japhet deserves to go to a big time school."

Christ The King plays against St. Raymond's on Wednesday.
