VCU Scores Third Verbal

The VCU Rams secured their third commitment of the season. Shaka Smart landed one of the program's key recruits in Treveon Graham.

The VCU Rams locked in on a Leonardtown (Md.) St. Mary's Ryken product early in the process. That dedication and commitment was key as the CAA program secured a commitment Monday night from Treveon Graham, a 2011 wing.

An 18-point a game scorer as a junior and all-league performer, Graham had offers from Cleveland State and Northeastern. Clemson, Cincinnati, Marshall and George Mason looked at him during the summer, according to Katrina Graham, Treveon's mother.

"They came in early," Graham said. "They showed more interest than anyone and to me and my son, we felt that my son was a priority to them. VCU always considered him their No. 1 recruit. My son is shy and they made him feel comfortable.

"They see him as the scorer. He's the wingman. Last year they recruited mostly bigs and in his class they recruited two kids already who are guards. My son's a guard too but he's a scorer."

VCU committed a lot of summer resources on Graham as one member of the staff was in attendance every game he played in July. "They've been to practically all of his games this summer. They've been recruiting him hard. The other schools, we heard from them here and there. We felt that they really, really wanted him."

Graham's a shy kid but his mother pointed out the comfort level her son experienced with the Rams. "(Assistant) Mike Jones, that's one thing I can say, he did an excellent job recruiting him. I can tell when someone is fake. Any questions that we had, (Jones and Shaka Smart) answered them straightforward and they were always available."

Graham is VCU's third commitment in 2011. The Rams secured verbals from Pierra Henry and Briante Weber.
