Stanford Strikes Early In 2004

Stanford is no stranger to recruiting on the east coast. Prior to Sunday their last east coast big man was Rob Little. Well, now they have two Virginians as they gained a 2004 commitment over the weekend.

Cardinal Lands Early 2004 Verbal

Peter Prowitt was the MVP of the 2003 Virginia Independent School State Championship as helped lead Potomac to their first state title. He scored 625 points as a junior and continues to be a force in the classroom as well. Now he's committed to be a member of the Stanford Cardinal.

Prowitt officially visited Stanford this year and the Cardinal now has its first 2004 commitment and one of the earliest in the history of their program. As great a school Stanford is, it was a group of guys that put the Cardinal over the top in a chase that also involved Princeton and Ohio State.

"I really liked the campus and the coaches and the academics were part of it but what sold me in the end was hanging out with the players," Prowitt said. "They're awesome athletes and students, but completely down to earth and cool people."

Prowitt will take a 24 ppg. scoring average and 11 rebounds and 3 blocks a game out west. The numbers are a significant improvement as the member of the Potomac Valley Blue Devils continues to make strides with his game. Here's what he had to say about his improvement from last year. "I just grew and matured; physically and skill wise and I took more of a leadership role."

At Stanford, he'll fill a need early on. "I felt that it's such an incredible place that I had trouble turning it down."
