Wiltjer Makes Surprise Announcement

Kyle Wiltjer surprised the recruiting community by announcing his college decision during the Elite 24 game.

Earlier in the week Portland (Ore.) Jesuit standout Kyle Wiltjer said he didn't have a timetable for making his college decision.

Just three days later the 6-foot-9, 225-pound post prospect opted to announce his college destination during the Boost Mobile Elite 24 all-star game. Wiltjer went with Kentucky.

"I"m very excited to be a part of that team," Wiltjer said during the Elite 24 broadcast.

"The one thing is I wanted to surround myself with the best players," he added. "They have a great recruiting class coming in and I thought it would be a great fit."

After having scholarship offers from high major programs across the country, Wiltjer, a five-star prospect, narrowed it to Kentucky, California, Wake Forest, Gonzaga and Texas. He picked Kentucky having never visited the campus.

Wiltjer, who averaged 16.5 points a game as a junior, is ranked No. 19 overall and checks in as the No. 5 power forward.

With addition of Wiltjer, who has won back-to-back state titles, Kentucky now has commitments from four top 20 prospects. He joins Michael Gilchrist, Marquis Teague and the nation's top prospect Anthony Davis.
