Charlotte Vance defeated Lee County 68-61 to capture the 4-A state title in North Carolina. The 4-A tournament was riddled with upsets and pre-tournament underdogs Lee County and Vance survived and advanced. Lee County took a 17-game winning streak into the final.
Lee County featured Wake Forest signee Todd Hendley and up and coming mid-major recruit Adrian Woodard, a junior. Hendley was held in check in the contest and Woodard did his best in the game's closing minutes to rally his team.
Charleston Southern head coach Jim Platt was on hand to watch his future power forward, VJ Fails, in action. The bullish insider went to work, especially in a pivotal second half run and didn't back down from Hendley in the least.
