ORLANDO (FL) - The Bulldogs enter the Old Spice Classic still unbeaten at 4-0 under new head coach Brandon Miller and off to their best start since the 2008-09 season.
While still unblemished, Butler survived their last game by rallying in the 2nd half to beat Ball State 59-58. Senior forward Khyle Marshall led the Bulldogs with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Kameron Woods added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Butler is led this year by sophomore guard Kellen Dunham and Marshall. Each are averaging 15.8 points per game and give the Bulldogs a threat on the outside and the inside. Kameron Woods also has stepped up his play. The junior forward is averaging 11 points and team-high 9 rebounds per game.
Washington State arrives in Orlando 2-2 after a disappointing loss to TCU 64-62. The Cougars trailed throughout the 1st half and eliminated the deficit in the 2nd, but couldn't quite grab the lead. DaVonte Lace led the Cougars with 18 points.
The Cougars enter the Old Spice Classic led senior guard DaVonte Lacy averaging 20.3 points per game. Only one other player averages double figures for Washington State in freshman point guard Ike Iroegbu (11.8).
Butler is 1-0 all-time versus the Cougars. The Bulldogs defeated Washington State 84-68 in the 2010 Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, HI. The Bulldogs were led by Shelvin Mack with 20 points, while Klay Thompson had a game-high 31 points for the Cougars.
