VIDEO: D.C. to Host 2017 Big Ten Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C. --Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany announced Washington, D.C. and the Verizon Center the site for the 2017 Big Ten Tournament.

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany announced that the 2017 men's basketball tournament will be held in Washington, D.C. at the Verizon Center, marking the first time in conference history, the tournament will be held outside of Indianapolis and Chicago.

The move represents the increased effort of the conference to expand its footprint in the East region, as Maryland and Rutgers officially join the conference on July 1, 2014.

Delany was joined by Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson, and Maryland men's basketball head coach Mark Turgeon, as well as Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo, who represented the Big Ten coaches at the announcement.
