McKay accepts Liberty head coaching position

Virginia associate head coach Ritchie McKay is going back to Liberty.

McKay, who was the head coach from 2007-09, accepted the job Tuesday evening, according to a source. A press conference to announce the hiring is set for 1:00 ET.

McKay has been at Virginia the past six seasons and has been an integral part of Virginia’s recent success.

Prior to coaching at Virginia and Liberty, McKay has had head coaching experience at New Mexico, Oregon State, Colorado State and Portland State.

His best season at Liberty was 2008-09, when he led the Flames to a 23-12 record.
